The Letter of Citizenship is the certifying document when a person acquires the nationality of another country, for reasons such as prolonged legal residence, through marriage or offspring, among others.
Once approved, it becomes valid for an indefinite period of time, however, it can be renounced or lost, in accordance with the provisions of the current legislation.
Under the scope of this law, technicians and professionals of the IT sector settled in Uruguay can choose to contribute to the Non-Resident Income Tax (IRNR, for its acronym in Spanish) (12% flat rate) and can also choose to not contribute to the social security system in Uruguay.

The procedure requires the presentation of a statement before BPS and DGI: Form 3200
Environmental Working Conditions (CAT) deals with the different techniques applied to the prevention of psychophysical integrity in the workplace, such as hygiene, safety and occupational medicine.
Workers’ rights include, among others, limited working hours, leaves of absence, salary supplements and severance pay. In addition, workers must join the social security and health system that covers disability, retirement, sickness, occupational accidents, maternity leave, unemployment and death.
According to national legislation, foreign workers have access to the same rights and obligations as nationals, and employers are required to comply with applicable labor and social security laws without distinction of the individual’s place of birth.
