Green Hydrogen specific procedures

Due to the global need to meet climate and de carbonization goals by 2050, many countries have concluded that hydrogen is the main energy vector to achieve said goals. In addition, Uruguay identifies in the green hydrogen economy an opportunity to continue strengthening its energy sovereignty and promote the development of its economic growth. Positive qualities have been identified in Uruguay in terms of Green Hydrogen production and in particular for its byproducts such as e-methanol or e-fuel.
  • Electricity Matrix +95% renewable resources
  • High potential for renewable energy generation (onshore and offshore)
  • Availability of biogenic CO2 from biomass
  • Possibility of complementing with solar and wind energy
  • High water availability
  • Adequate logistics and supply chain continuity
  • Government Commitment: road map and specific tax incentives

After an analysis and exchange process with relevant stakeholders on a national and international level , in June 2022 the Green Hydrogen Road map was launched in Uruguay where the country’s objectives and comparative advantages can be seen.

In the following link, those interested in developing or investing in the production of Green Hydrogen (GH) and its byproducts will have access to relevant information in order to analyze a project of these dimensions.
Electricity supply for hydrogen projects can be provided by an independent power generation facility, or be self-supplied by the company’s own power generation plant. In both cases, an authorization for generating electric power must be obtained.

When the company that produces Green Hydrogen does so by self-supplying its electric energy, then it is necessary to request an authorization of generation for self-use. When the installed power is greater than 150 kW, then an application for Authorization of generation for self-use (power greater than 150 kW) must be presented.
