Authorities of the National Institute of Information and Technology (ITI, by its acronym in Portuguese) of Brazil, the Electronic Certification Unit (UCE, by its acronym in Spanish) of Uruguay, and Agesic signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in research and development in digital signature, digital identity, cryptography, public key infrastructure and new trusted services.
Through the memorandum actions and operational aspects are set in order to facilitate cross-border electronic transactions between both countries.
The agreement enables the development and research of several technical works related to new trusted services and ecosystems; post quantum cryptographic algorithms, trends in public key infrastructure, new standards and regulations, among others.
The signing of this agreement seeks compatibility regarding the technical code between both countries in order to achieve recognition and cross-border use of the digital identification services.
This memorandum takes place within the Mercosur agreement concluded in 2019 that recognizes the digital certificates issued by accredited or authorized certification service providers in any country of the block. Uruguay signed an agreement with Argentina in April 2022 for the technical implementation of mutual recognition of digital signature certificates.
